Karesuando is a large village in Lapland’s north western arm, situated on the banks of the Muoniojoki River, one half in Sweden, the other in Finland (Karesuvanto). From Karesuvanto it is a 110 km journey to Kilpisjärvi and 88 km to Muonio.
Lapland is the magnificent country of fells, reindeers and Northern Lights. It is also a vast geographical area laying in the northern most part of the Scandinavia spreading to the area of the four different countries: Finland, Russia, Norway and Sweden. Karesuando is situated on the same latitude as central Greenland and northernmost Canada but due to the gulfstream it has a suprising climate. During the winter it can be freezing cold, but it´s a dry, silent cold that feels much more comfortable compare to the intense winds in the south.

Some 60 minutes from Kittila Airport in the direction of Muonio, lies the ski resort of Olos, truly another hidden Lappish gem.
There are, but only a few places in Lapland where one can imagine the location to be the home of Santa Claus and it is no wonder why Santa has chosen Olos as one of his special homes in Lapland. The setting is peaceful and tranquil and yet it provides all the creature comforts one may require. Here one finds cross country tracts at your very door and slalom ski slopes running into the centre of activities. In the main restaurant building there is also a heated swimming pool. Other Olos resort facilities include a Kota, a ski pub/restaurant providing a traditional setting for an evening of merriment.
Diversity and year round qualities are characteristics proudly held by Fell Lapland. Gold panning, mountain biking, Nordic walking, or otherwise traversing the countryside, you are bound to enjoy. The groud can get its first snow cover at the beginning of September, snow in the summer has even been known to happen. Permanent snow cover generally settles in October - November, after which the covering gets steadily thicker. December can see a snow covering of about 40 centimetres, and January - February can have a depth of 70-80 centimetres.
