A budget itinerary that takes you to the area surrounding the capital of Finnish Lapland, Rovaniemi. Accommodation placement differs greatly from city centre hotels to cabins in the woods nearby. If you stay in Rovaniemi centre expect the usual trappings of any large town (buses, taxiís, McDonalds etc.). Many of the accommodations are only available on a Bed & Breakfast basis.

The main activities on this programme are taster only although you will have the opportunity to visit main tourist areas of SantaPark and Santas Village. These can be busy at times through December.

Not much is known regarding the Santa meeting although it does seem to be only at the included Gala meal on the final evening.

Resort - Rovaniemi

Lapland's capital, Rovaniemi, plays by its own rules. While the rest of the region enjoys the relaxed Lappish pace of life, this lively metropolis is a city that never sleeps. Holidaymakers flock here as much for the snow sports and the after-dark offerings as they do for the scenery and the chance to meet Santa, and locals and university students keep the place ticking over long after the tourists have left.

The city centre itself is fairly compact, with everything centred around a few main streets. Here, shopping malls are home to big department stores and stylish fashion boutiques. Smart restaurants serve everything from traditional Lappish fare to modern French cuisine. And funky nightclubs play the latest tunes until the early hours. All that said, wherever you go in the city, brightly-lit Christmas trees and out-of-the-ordinary ice sculptures remind you you're in Lapland.

What's more, head just five minutes outside the city, and the dramatic scenery and snowy wilderness this part of the world is synonymous with stretches out in every direction. And there's no end of ways to explore it. Zoom through the forest on a snowmobile, or take a seat in a sleigh pulled by reindeer or huskies.

Christmas festivities in Rovaniemi, meanwhile, come courtesy of Santa Park. This underground grotto, where Santa and his helpers work, is a magical world of ice sculptures, elf shows and fairy-lit workshops.

Classic Lapland 3 or 4-night Trip

It doesn't matter whether you want cuddly huskies, a suited-and-booted Santa or laid-back bars and restaurants, Rovaniemi's got it all. Spend your days in cosy log cabins and getting the lowdown on elfish life at Santa Park. Here, kids can make something special for their tree and everyone will have the chance to decorate their own gingerbread man in the kitchen. Plus, there's the chance to head outdoors and test out husky and snowmobiling power.

With a centre-of-town location, an indoor pool, and the full programme of snow activities, this place delivers on all fronts.

Set next to the Kemijoki River, this place is just a few minutes' walk from the shops, restaurants and bars of Rovaniemiís lively centre. Santa Park is close by, too, and you're in a good spot for snow sports like snowmobiling and skiing.

The property itself is straight from the modern school of design. The lobby is a case in point. The same goes for the bedrooms, which are spread between the main building and an annexe reached through a tunnel. Free from grand design gestures, the refurbished ones combine boutiquey grey-and-cerise shades with wooden floors and sleek console desks. The remaining rooms are dressed in more traditional browns and creams.

Food-wise, thereís one restaurant here offering buffet meals. For breakfast, expect hot and cold selections with everything from sausages and eggs to cheeses, hams and Finnish porridge on offer. In the evenings, meanwhile, thereís a Lappish ŗ la carte menu featuring lots of meat and fish dishes.

Lastly, this place has the added bonus of a swimming pool Ė a simple, rectangular affair on the lower ground floor of the hotel. Elsewhere, thereís a sauna and a childrenís playroom with a miniature bouncy castle.

SNOW-FUELLED ADVENTURES

Optional Extras available on the Classic Lapland trip

HUSKY TRAIL BLAZER

Long before snowmobiles came on to the scene, the residents of Lapland used husky-drawn sleds to get from A to B. On this trip, you'll sample this traditional mode of transport for yourself. Along with your elf guide and a pack of these speedy Arctic dogs, you'll whiz through the snow, before stopping at a farm to learn all about these animals.

Total time approximately 2-3 hours
Adult price £104 | Child Price £69

REINDEER SAFARI

You get to play Santa on this trip. As well as taking a ride in a reindeer-pulled sleigh, you'll be able to complete your reindeer driving test and earn your licence. You'll also pay a visit to a reindeer farm, where you'll get the lowdown on how these festive animals are herded. Later, there's time for a quick snack and some hot berry juice.

Total time approximately 2-3 hours

Adult price £102 | Child Price £66

SNOWMOBILE BY DAY

A snowmobile adventure is the best way to get off the beaten track and take in Lapland's snow-dusted scenery. Hop in your vehicle and you'll be zooming through fairytale forests and over frozen lakes in next to on time. It's up to you whether you brave it alone and drive solo, or share a skidoo with someone else. This trip is perfect for the little one's, too - they can sit in a special sleigh while one of Santa's elves drives the vehicle.

Total time approximately 2-3 hours

2 Adults £170 total | 1 Adult + 1 Child Price £143 total | Adult Single Ride £115

SNOWMOBILE BY NIGHT

This adults-only night-time tour is more than a little bit magical. You'll bundle up in snow gear and climb onboard your snowmobile, before speeding off into the night. Later, you'll stop to build a fire and have a drink under the moonlit shy,. If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the spectacular Northern Lights.

Total time approximately 3 hours

2 Adults £201 total | 1 Adult + 1 Child Price £166 total | Adult Single Ride £131

ELF ADVENTURE

This one will really get you in the festive spirit. After meeting Santa's Elves, you'll make your way into the forest and help a lumberjack pick out a Christmas tree. Then, it's a case of packing in as much fun as you can. Head out into the snow to get to grips with snow slides or snow tubing, as well as quads and cross-country skiing. Then warm up inside and help make decorations for the tree before refuelling with a spot of lunch. What's more, because this trip is slightly different in each destination, you can look forward to unique extras - in Rovaniemi (Classic Lapland) you'll spend time with Mrs Claus, and have a kick about with Santa's official football team - F.C. Santa Claus.

Total time approximately 3 hours
