IT’S NEW YEAR’S EVE and in the crisp air of a Lapland night you celebrate the birth of a new year, perhaps – if you are really lucky – beneath nature’s own magnificent firework show, the Northern Lights. You’ve had such a good time seeing in the New Year, you wish you could do it all again. Well you can. Because the village of Karesuando lies on the Finnish/Swedish border and given the hour’s time difference between the two countries, you can stroll across the border to Sweden and start your celebrations all over again! Twice the celebrations … and twice the fun! Your New Year celebrations are only part of your short break with Transun. But there is so much more included. From a Search for Santa, to a Husky Experience, from a New Year Dinner to a Snowmobile Adventure, your three-night break is packed with magical experiences. Here is a typical itinerary.
After you land in Enontekiö in Finland you will be guided to your coach. The one-hour journey takes you through the heart of the Sámi lands. Watch out for reindeer in the woods! Your all-in-one thermal suits and boots collection will be organised by your representative. After checking in at the Davvi Arctic Lodge, your Transun rep hosts a welcome meeting and will answer any further questions during dinner. Tonight, you can join one of our optional activities, such as a snowmobile night safari, hoping to encounter the Northern Lights. See 'Optional Excursions' for full details.
After breakfast, you head out on your first safari - a thrilling 40-minute Husky Experience followed by a warming lunch. Throughout the day you can enjoy snow activities outside, with toboggans available free. There’s even an outdoor ice rink, with skates for youngsters to hire. Or there’s plenty of family fun to be had making snowmen or enjoying a good old-fashioned snowball fight! This evening, enjoy a walk to the local church, across the border. After a short welcome by the vicar and carols, you return to the Davvi Arctic Lodge for a host’s cocktail reception, followed by a special New Year Celebration.
After breakfast, you will be joining your second included Santa Safari - the onehour snowmobile adventure. A warming lunch will then follow. A supervised kids' snowmobileride will be available (see FAQs for details) or, if you're lucky, a chance a get up close to a friendly reindeer.
Then, the highlight of the day when you board a reindeer sleigh and set off In Search of Father Christmas. During a private family meeting in his cabin, each child has the chance to talk with Santa now that he is back from his annual journey around the world. Each child receives a small gift. After dinner, relax, or join one of our optional husky night safaris, perhaps in the hope of seeing the Northern Lights.
Check out after breakfast at 0900hrs. You can join our Wilderness Treasure Hunt and then there should be time for one final play in the snow. Alternatively, you can join one of our optional excursions. After lunch, you depart for Enontekiö and your flight home.
