This year do something extra special for New Year that the whole family will enjoy on a 4 night break to Lapland. You’ll head off in search of Santa, who will have time on his hands now that his festive duties are over. There are husky sled rides, reindeer sleigh rides and snowmobile safaris for you all to enjoy. Then, on New Year’s Eve, enjoy a special New Year Celebration at your hotel.

Another year begins and it’s a time of celebration, renewal and excited expectation. So why not celebrate it deep inside the Arctic Circle, where the magic of Father Christmas’s special season still holds sway? After celebrating the arrival of the New Year in style, you will be able to venture out into the majestic snowscapes to enjoy a wide range of snow activities before setting out in search of the grand old man himself. Your New Year short break will be a wonderful opportunity to spend quality family time together in the exhilarating surrounds of this winter wonderland. Celebrating the New Year will be just part of your short break. There is so much more included. From a Husky Experience to a Search for Santa, from a Snowmobile Adventure to a New Year Celebration, your three-night break is filled with magical experiences. Here is a typical itinerary.

Day One

Your flight departs around 10am and at Enontekiö you are guided to your coach. The journey to Hetta takes around 10 to 15 minutes and to Karesuando between 40 and 60 minutes (watch out for Santa’s reindeer in the woods!). Your all-in-one thermal suits and boots collection will be organised by your representative. After checking in at your chosen accommodation, your rep hosts a welcome meeting and will answer any further questions during dinner. Tonight, you can join one of our optional activities, such as a snowmobile night safari, hoping to encounter the Northern Lights. See 'Optional Excursions' for full details.

Day Two

Reindeer

After breakfast, you will be joining your first included Safari - the 40-minute Snowmobile Adventure. A supervised kids' snowmobile ride will be available or, if you're lucky, a chance to get up close to a friendly reindeer. Then, the highlight of the day when you board a reindeer sleigh and set off In Search of Father Christmas. During a private family meeting in his cabin, each child has the chance to talk with Santa now that he is back from his annual journey around the world. Each child receives a small gift. This evening, enjoy a New Year celebration including a special feast and fireworks.

Day Three

Kick-sleding

After breakfast, you head out on your second safari - a thrilling 40-minute Husky Experience followed. Throughout the day you can enjoy snow activities outside, with toboggans available free. Or there’s plenty of family fun to be had making snowmen or enjoying a good old-fashioned snowball fight! Alternatively, you might opt to join the inside craft activities, or maybe try one of our exciting optional excursions, such as a trying your hand at Reindeer Herding. After a lovely hot dinner at your hotel, why not join an optional Northern Lights excursion?

Day Four

After breakfast, you can join one of our optional excursions such as befriending some husky puppies or driving your own reindeer sleigh on our Reindeer Camp. Alternatively, you may want to spend time playing in the snow with your family. After lunch, the afternoon is free to relax, enjoy some more family fun in the snow, or perhaps join one of our optional excursions. After dinner, relax, or join one of our optional night safaris.

Day Five

Check out after breakfast at 0900hrs, There should be time for one final play in the snow or to join one of our optional excursions. After a hot lunch, you depart for Enontekiö and your flight home.

THE HETAN LOMAKYLA provides accommodation ideally suited to those who want to feel close to nature. Set a five-minute drive outside of the quiet village of Hetta, the accommodation is located on the banks of the river Närpistöjoki, near Lake Ounasjärvi. It comprises just four cabins, four cottages and four rooms that are available to use in the winter time.

The accommodation is simply furnished,clean and fully heated. The owner builds a tobogganing slope, which is lit up when night falls, so you can continue using the free toboggans to you heart’s content.

THE CABINS

The large cabins sleep five or six people (max. seven) over two floors.

A bedroom with two twin beds, an equipped kitchenette, and a lounge/ dining area where there is a dining table as well as a sofa that can sleep one adult or two children. In the upstairs loft area there are three beds.

The large cabins have: Shower & WC • Sauna • Television • Fireplace.

The small cabins sleep three or four people (max. five) on one floor. There's a bedroom with two twin beds, an equipped kitchenette, and a lounge/dining area where there are two twin beds and a sofa that can sleep one adult or two children.

THE COTTAGES

The cottages are detached and are 26 square metres. They can sleep two people comfortably with the possibility of a maximum of three. A small galley kitchenette is equipped and has a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, etc.

In the main lounge/dining area there is a dining table as well as two twin beds and a sofa that can sleep an additional person. Cottages have: Shower & WC • Television

THE ROOMS

There is one family room that can sleep three to four people and three rooms that can sleep two people. The family room has one bedroom with a double bed and a sofa bed in the lounge area that can sleep two children. There is also a private sauna and an equipped kitchenette. The twin rooms have two twin beds and can take an extra bed. Rooms have: Shower & WC • Television.

THE HETAN MAJATALO is an excellent choice for families and a place where you are sure to receive a friendly welcome.

The hotel is set back from the main road and backs onto a forest. The dining room is set in another building. The pine interior of the rooms gives the hotel a fresh feel.

THE ROOMS

With just 27 rooms, the Hetan Majatalo offers a range of room types to suit most family groups. The twin rooms can sleep two with an extra bed possible for a child. The family rooms vary in size and sleep four, five or six as standard, with the possibility of a simple extra bed for one more child in each case. Please note: extra beds constrict space, they will normally be placed in the loft area (family rooms only) and is usually a mattress for a child. There are also two rooms for the disabled or those less able. All rooms have: Shower & WC |• Telephone • TV and radio

THE FACILITIES

The hotel also has a small library and internet access*. The 24-hour reception also serves as a small gift shop and bar*. A fully-equipped fitness room* and sauna are also available.

Your Short Break includes some fantastic Arctic activities, involving husky sleds, reindeer sleighs and snowmobiles. But many of our guests just want to come back for more! So we have arranged this fantastic selection of additional safaris. A glance at our individual itineraries will give you an idea of how much scope there is for extra activities.

Northern Lights Snowmobile Safaris

A memorable experience. Take a night time safari driving your own snowmobile, led by a local guide, to a nearby vantage point where, if you are lucky, you may see the Northern Lights evolving in the sky (a stunning natural phenomenon which, of course, cannot be guaranteed). Includes hot drinks. Children travel in sleds pulled behind the guide's snowmobile.

Price: £110 (per adult, two sharing) or £130 (single rider), £85 (per child 2-15)  Duration: One Hour

Ice Fishing By Snowmobile

This is a great trip for all the family. You travel by snowmobile to a nearby popular fishing site where you can try your hand at traditional ice-fishing – you just drill a hole in the ice and lower your baited hook into the icy waters below.

Price: £75 (per adult, two sharing), £45 (child 2-15)  Duration: 1.5 Hours

PLEASE NOTE: Snowmobile safaris include helmet and third party insurance (self risk excess E550 payable locally in case of accident).

Husky sledge

Northern Lights Husky Safari

Take a night time safari on a sledge mushing your own team of dogs to a nearby vantage point where, if you are fortunate, you may see the Northern Lights evolving in the sky above (a stunning natural phenomenon which, of course, cannot be guaranteed). Includes hot drinks.

Price: £110 (per adult, two sharing), £85 (per child 2-15)  Duration: 1 Hour

PLEASE NOTE: The ability to drive and control a husky team on longer safaris is determined by physical attributes. Normally anybody over the age of 18 should be able to handle a dog team comfortably.

Puppy Encounter

Strictly limited numbers are available for this highly popular opportunity to befriend the husky puppies. You are transferred to the husky camp, where you meet the latest puppy litter and hear stories from real-life mushers. Includes hot drinks.

Price: £90 (adult), £70 (child 2-15)Duration: One Hour

Reindeer Herding

You will visit a reindeer gathering place where you learn about reindeer herding and even how to lasso a reindeer. Then venture into the Arctic wilderness on a short safari, drawn through the snow by a reindeer while sitting in a sleigh. Includes hot drinks.

Price:£75 (per adult, two sharing), £65 (per child 2-15)  Duration: Two Hours

A Night in an Igloo

Spend a night in the grounds of the Davvi Arctic Lodge in Karesuando, sleeping in an authentic igloo! With no electricity, your ice house is lit by candles, while your bed is a block of ice, covered with reindeer skins, while each person wraps up warm in a single Arctic sleeping bag. Includes hot drinks. This experience is available on short breaks to Karesuando only.

NB: All safaris include expert guides, equipment and all necessary instruction. On our Northern Lights night safaris, we search for the best viewpoints rather than aim to cover a specific distance. On all safaris, unless a supplement is paid to secure a single rider, you may be required to share with another person from the group. All prices are per person.
